Theo Gabriel Beltran, MPH

Theo Beltran is a PhD Student and in the Department of Epidemiology in the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He currently works with Dr. Whitney Robinson and is involved in her R01 study to descriptively analyze data on transgender and non-binary patients who have had a hysterectomy. Beltran also supports research at the RISE lab with Dr. Tonia Poteat, focusing on the perspectives of binding and health. He is also a current member of APIENC’s Trans Justice Committee, an organization that builds power and mobilizes organizers within the API TGNC community. Theo previously completed his MPH in Health and Social Behavior at the University of California, Berkeley and has previously worked at the San Francisco Department of Public Health to advance research with transgender women’s health and quality of life. His research interests include highlighting racial health disparities experienced by transgender and gender non-conforming populations, structural inequities and its impact on health, and utilizing mixed methods research to contextualize the experiences of marginalized populations.
